This is actually a pretty cool story. The window across from the bed in my dad's room has a crack in it, and at a certain time of the day, when the sun shines through it just right, it spells 'LULA' across the ceiling. I was laying on his bed one day, when I looked up and saw the light on the ceiling. Minutes later, I was writing the song. For around a year, all I had was the first verse. Later came the chorus and the second verse, and the last addition (the bridge) was pretty much made up on the spot while recording the main vocal track. Probably the best word improvisation I've ever done, coming from someone who never ever does that.
lyrics
Lula, Lula; why are you treating me this way?
Lula, Lula; can it wait another day?
Can’t you see that I love you? You’re the one, the only
Can’t you see that I need you? You’re the heart, the soul
Let me hold you close
Lula, Lula; I want my arms around you
Lula, Lula; for you, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do
Can’t you see that I love you? You’re the one, the only
Can’t you see that I need you? You’re the heart, the soul
Let me hold you close
I can see it in your eyes; the tides they rise, they fall
I can see your despise in me, but I’m trying to make it all up to you
Lula, Lula; why are you treating me this way?
Lula, Lula; can it wait another day?
Can’t you see that I love you? You’re the one, the only
Can’t you see that I need you? You’re the heart, the soul
Let me hold you close
